Hello, I'm Sabine. A new mom and a native Berliner. I work in the children's store Hug & Grow. My favorite thing to do in Berlin is roll through the Tiergarten. My second living room. Always with me: my Naturkind stroller. Of course. And because the Tiergarten is not only beautiful, but also incredibly centrally located, today I'm going to share my insider tips for your next visit to Berlin. For your next slow travel visit to my home.
So much green in the middle of the city – Berlin with a baby
From our apartment we walk towards Tiergarten past the Hansa district. In the 1950s,
Who's who of the architecture scene (e.g. Walter Gropius). High-rise buildings next to
Single-family homes, seemingly in the middle of the park. Anyone who likes design will love the Hansa Quarter.
My insider tip: On Fridays there is a organic weekly market (1) (Altonaer Straße/Klopstockstraße).
And in front of the Hansaplatz subway station there is a beautiful mosaic wall that is ideal as a photo background
for a holiday photo.
Leaving the Hansa district behind you, you come to the Victory Column (2) We Berliners call them
Goldelse. It is located in the center of the Tiergarten and can be climbed with 285 steps. Unfortunately without
Elevator. Therefore not suitable for strollers, but perhaps exciting for some of the crew ;). It is much cheaper than the TV tower. And the view is fantastic.
Sightseeing with a stroller in a different way
The Victory Column is a great place to do some sightseeing. At each end of the Tiergarten
There is something exciting and historical to discover. In the north-west the Hansa Quarter. In the
West is the Sky Cafeteria. In the south-west is the Zoo (4) and the Kurfürstendamm (we
call it Ku´Damm) with shopping mile and Aquarium (3) . In the south you can reach the Mexican
Embassy (the tip comes further down!) and the Bauhaus Museum. In the south-east lies the
Potsdamer Platz and the Philharmonie. In
East is the Brandenburg Gate. Just a few hundred meters further north is the Reichstag. And
In the north-east lies Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the Federal President. It is located
even half in the zoo itself.
Great locations in the Tiergarten
You can also have a good meal in the Tiergarten English Teahouse (5) . There is a
Serving on the go. We like to sit on the lawn in front of it. A popular place for families and
Children's birthdays. It is also nice Café am Neuen See (6) . In the beer garden by the water you can
You can even rent paddle boats. The “lake” is more of a large pond, but therefore
with small children perfectly adequate for paddling. On the other side of the river you can
Herons are looking. They live there and can camouflage themselves very well.
My absolute insider tip is the Tiergarten Quelle at Tiergarten S-Bahn station. Good, hearty
Essen, a Berlin original and not too crowded. There is a beer garden and a classic
Local.
The best playgrounds around Tiergarten Berlin
Even though there is enough nature to discover in the zoo, a playground tip
The biggest and most adventurous Playground (7) There is a north-eastern part (on the
Academy of Arts), directly behind the Tiergarten S-Bahn station. It is suitable for older children
and rather a bit crowded. Because it is so great. If you prefer to be alone, you will find in the south-eastern
Share the children's playground on Luiseninsel.
For very small mice under 3 years, the playground in the south-western part at the Thomas-
Dehler-Straße is the right place for you. There is a climbing frame here that was built especially for the little ones.
From there it is worth taking a detour down Klingelhöferstraße to the Mexican Embassy (8) – it
are just a few steps away. There is a scaffold with angel wings in front of which there are great
Have souvenir photos taken.
My favorite places in the Tiergarten
I have been living in the neighborhood around the Tiergarten for 13 years and I have never been bored
Walking. In the park itself I like the rose garden, the Venus basin and the stone collection at
The latter is called Sculpture Group or Global Stone Project and is a
Collection of very large stones from all over the world. Ideal for climbing for little adventurers.
My insider tips
In Flensburger Straße (at Tiergarten S-Bahn station) you can find the best ice cream in the
area. Around the corner, in Bartningallee, there is the Konditorei Buchwald (9) – in my opinion – the best cake
in Berlin. The confectionery shop has been around since 1852 and has been
Generations of women have led the process. An absolute must: the Baumkuchen. However, there are a few stages
to the café. When the weather is warm, you can also sit outside and don't have to climb any steps.
But a cake to go is also a good choice. A reservation is almost mandatory to
to get a free table.
A little further over the bridge (the street is now called Kirchstraße) you reach the Hug &
Grow (10) . My workplace. We have two small shops in the street. A shop with everything
what you can wish for for a secure, sustainable parenthood – from carrying,
Cloth diapers, eco-clothing, toys for free play and even the Naturkind stroller.

You are also welcome to test drive it with us and put it through its paces.
A few houses further down you will find our children's shoe store with a focus on barefoot shoes.
Our online shop is also located in the same building. If you want to
If you need something else, we can also send it anywhere in Europe.
Stop by and say hello. Although you probably don’t see me that often
I usually hide in the online shop. But my colleagues are the
Awesome. Promised!
I hope I was able to give you some special tips for your next visit to Berlin and
invite you to discover the city from a different perspective. Slow Traveling from Nature
in the middle of the city, so to speak. Of course, this also applies to all Berliners!
Take care. Your Sabine
